It’s not just the country’s first known 100% Single Farm Origin whisky — it’s the personal journey of Fredine le Roux, a winemaker-turned-whisky-maker whose vision and grit shine through every bottle.
From Oenology to Oak Barrels
Fredine is no stranger to the land. An Elsenburg-trained winemaker with a deep understanding of fermentation and flavour, she spent years crafting fine wines before whisky called her name. With characteristic determination, she transformed her family’s farm into a small-batch distillery with a big story.
The name Room 4 is a nostalgic nod to humble beginnings — student digs, experiments, and long nights chasing a dream. Today, every drop is farmed, fermented, distilled, matured, and bottled right there on Rooiheuwel. This isn’t sourced spirit or blended grain. It’s an Overberg original, born from the soil beneath the still.
The Whisky Experience
Tastings at Room 4 are not your typical swirl-and-sip affair. Hosted inside the beautifully restored 1927 Cape Dutch manor house, once home to Count Blügner, these sessions are intimate, sensory, and deeply personal.
Each three-hour experience is designed for groups of 12 or more and features six distinct whiskies — each with its own story, texture, and flavour journey. Whether you’re new to whisky or already a collector of rare drams, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the craft (and likely, a new favourite bottle).
