Lekker Stops along the Namaqua Flower Route

  • Maskam Brewing – Small brewery and restaurant set in a beautiful garden on a farm in the Olifants River Valley just outside Vredendal.
  • 1st Principles Distilleries – 1st Principles Distilleries is a small distillery with tasting facilities located near Vredendal, offering tastings by appointment only. Situated in the heart of the Namaqua Kingdom on an irrigation farm, the distillery has access to a variety of unique botanicals from Namaqualand, Cederberg Fynbos, and the West Coast succulent Karoo. Its prime location also offers access to the Olifants River irrigation area, known for its diverse fruits and wines, as well as the winter grain-growing regions of the Sandveld and Swartland, which are used in the production of base alcohol and naturally fermented fruits.
  • Cederberg Brewery – Taproom right above the brewery, based at Cederberg Private Cellar on the Dwarsrivier farm in the heart of the pristine Cederberg Conservation Area. Highly recommended.
  • Nieuw Brew – Brewery on a historic, fully functioning farm, with an eatery, a winery a farm stall, and lots of activities and accommodation. No access to the brewery but beers are available at the restaurant.
  • Charlie’s Brewhouse and Poetic Licence Distillery – Brewery, Distillery, Taproom, and Restaurant. A family-friendly establishment with a fantastic marina vibe.
  • Ginsmith – a micro-distillery high up in the mountains. Visits by appointment only.
  • Paternoster Brewery – Modern brewery and restaurant in a historical fishing village.
  • Black Eagle Brewing Company – Brewery and taproom in the heart of the popular West Coast village.
  • Yzer Bru – A busy little brewery with excellent craft beer and a great West Coast beach vibe.
  • DarlingBrew – Taproom overlooking the entire brewery, with a pub-style menu and a full beer-tasting experience.
  • West Coast Distillers – a small craft distillery in Langebaan
  • St Helena Brewing Co – somewhere in St Helena
  • Wright’s Gin – a distillery with a tasting facility at West Coast Farm Stall in Yzerfontein.

  • Kleinzee: Former mining town, now popular for beachcombing and whale watching.
  • Nieuwoudtville: Famous for its diverse bulb species and unique flora.
  • Loeriesfontein: Known for windmills and the Namaqua Eco-Route.
  • Pofadder: A small town, often a stopover for travelers.

Wildflower Viewing Route:

  1. Springbok to Kamieskroon: Enjoy roadside and reserve wildflowers.
  2. Kamieskroon to Skilpad (Namaqua National Park): Explore expansive wildflower fields.
  3. Skilpad to Garies: Another scenic flower route.
  4. Garies to Nieuwoudtville: Famous for its bulbs and late-season blooms.
