About Us
We seek out the creators, makers, and dreamers who bring heart and soul to our towns and cities. Through our platform, we connect communities with their stories — making sure their craft and passion thrive for generations to come.
Who We Are
At the centre of it all is Beer Troopy — an adventure-driven storyteller and beat-up Land Cruiser — exploring South Africa’s beer scene with the support of a passionate community. What began with breweries has grown into a broader movement to uplift local legends in every form.
Our Mission
We celebrate the Local Legends — the entrepreneurs, makers, and hosts who bring life to our small towns and big cities. These are the people whose stories we’re dedicated to sharing and supporting.
The Story Behind the Passport
In 2014, after decades in the beer trade, I published The Beer Book — a guide that featured 501 local beers. I created it to sell beer, and to shine a spotlight on independent brewers who deserved to be discovered. And it worked. Readers started beer clubs to taste their way through the book, and retailers started calling, eager to stock, because club members didn’t know where to find the beers.
But after the COVID-19 lockdowns, many retailers lost interest in stocking local beers and spirits. I couldn’t support breweries in the old way anymore. So I started thinking differently.
A New Idea
What if we could bring the beer lovers to the breweries instead?
And that’s how the Beer Passport™ was born — a printed passport with stamps to encourage people to visit local breweries and support them in person.
It worked. Again. Better than I could’ve imagined.
The Evolution: From Beer to Something Bigger
As I travelled across the country, something unexpected happened. Brewers introduced me to local coffee roasters, farm stalls, cheesemakers, chocolatiers, artists, and entrepreneurs — people pouring heart into what they do and the places they call home.
And I realised:
What if the passport wasn’t just about beer?
What if it helped people discover all the lekker places across the country?
That’s when Lekker Passport™ was born.
Now, wherever I go, I can support more than just the brewery. I can help showcase the whole community.
Beer Passport 2.0: Digital, Customisable, Global
We’ve completely reinvented the Beer Passport for a new era:
- The Beer Pass is now fully digital — designed for easy check-ins, hidden gem discovery, and community-driven adventures.
- The printed Beer Passport 2.0 is international-ready, fully customisable, and designed to help people collect real stamps, stickers, and stories from their journey.
It’s no longer just about beer.
It’s about the experience of discovery, and the memories we make along the way.
Why We Exist
Like Daniel Disney said:
The best salespeople don’t try to sell — they try to help.
That’s our philosophy, too.
We’re not here to sell someone else’s product. We’re here to support local legends, inspire real-world adventures, and build a platform where communities can grow together.
So whether you’re a brewer, a baker, or a small-town maker — or someone just keen to explore — we built this for you.
Let’s build something lekker together.
